PhD program in Informatics for Climate Change
The Université Joseph KI-ZERBO in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in collaboration with the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), is pleased to announce the opening of a PhD program at the Doctoral school in Informatics for Climate Change (ED-ICC). The PhD program aims to train a critical mass of climate change experts with adequate scientific computation and climate data management skills for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Program component and duration
Admitted students will be taken through a 03 months pre-doctoral programme of English proficiency course before starting the 36 months PhD programme. However, this training is optional. The PhD program duration is three years and is made of: (i) specific lectures component; (ii) research proposal preparation and defence; (iii) field/research work; (iv) possibility of research stays at other universities abroad; (v) and Final thesis write-up and defence.
Eligibility
- Hold a master’s degree in Informatics for Climate Change, Computer Science, Physics, Meteorology and Climate science, Geography, Natural sciences, Geoscience, Agriculture, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Engineering, Electrical, Electronic Engineering, Forestry, environmental economics, and other relevant Master degree in Science & Technology related to climate change.
- Be proficient in French with an intermediate level of English

Opportunities
Upon completion of the PhD research, the students are equipped with the skills allowing them to take up climate professions related to natural resources managements, food security and health. They can undertake professional careers in meteorological agencies, research centres, universities, public administration, private sector, NGOs, International Institutions, etc.
