- Goals
The objective of this module is to provide students with:
- knowledge on data acquisition systems, components, and observations techniques;
- practical skills to deal with data acquisition process.
- Learning Outcomes
After completing this module, students should be able to:
- be aware of the importance of climate and environmental data acquisition;
- calibrate data acquisition sensors;
- suitably acquire and manipulate (correct, preprocess) data from various sensors;
- implement a complete data acquisition

- CCI – 01: Meteorological and climate data analysis
- Contents
- Definitions of Data acquisition (in general, under climate change).
- Data acquisition system and components: definition, components (sensors, actuators, DAQ hardware), systems (climate station and network conception, operation of climate stations and networks).
- Climate-related Data acquisition and observation networks: weather data acquisition and observation networks, measures and sensors (atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, air temperature and relative humidity, etc.), observation networks and techniques (surface observations, upper-air observations, marine observations, aircraft-based observations, satellite-based observations), geospatial Data acquisition techniques (GPS, Remote sensing, Photogrammetry, Topography, Maps digitalization).
- Agricultural Data acquisition and observations networks: definitions, measures and sensors (soil temperature, precipitation, humidity, solar radiation, etc), observations networks and techniques: physical observations, biological observations.
- Socio-economics data acquisition and observation networks.
- Biodiversity Data Acquisition and observation networks.
- Practice (Data acquisition process): Data capture (settings, calibration), data logging/storage (data formats), data transmission/retrieving (locally retrieval, remote/automatic retrieval), quality control, instruments maintenance.
